Project management
Most projects are non-trivial:
- They generally have many complex requirements
- Usually have multiple deliverables that are to be delivered in stages
- Always involve people with different skills and priorities
- May involve a number of external parties
The first step is to recognise the full meaning of the above points.
- Sizing a project is key
- Making sure everyone knows what is expected of them
- Managing the inter-dependencies and reacting to delays on the critical path (Knowing what the critical path is!)
- Ensuring all parties communicate effectively
- Monitoring and reporting the state of the project as it moves forward
- Identifying issues on the horizon before you find yourself looking over the edge of a cliff
- . . . We could go on
X-Act Solutions Limited can help with all or any aspect of project management and planning. We can:
- Develop the plan and get all parties to sign up to it (Most important!)
- Run the project and provide management progress reports
- Restructure the plan as issues arise, events unfold, etc.
- Be a 'pain in the arse' to anyone not delivering on their commitments to the project
All projects hit unforeseen problems. Successful projects are those with a strong Project Manager to keep momentum going come-what-may.
Food for thought: A Project Manager manages a project, but they do not work on it.
